NECAC Offers Holiday Relief

November 21, 2023

NECAC has gobs of utility assistance available. The agency started the fiscal year Oct. 1 with $2.4 million, and has only allocated about one percent (through Nov. 20) to about 3,900 households. Pledges started Nov. 1, so there is plenty of money available.

Weatherization is a long-term solution to energy consumption. With winter on the doorstep, now is the time to sign up for NECAC services, which include everything from air leak sealing to replacement of windows and furnaces. Weatherization can help lower utility bills and extend the life of homes.

Schools in NECAC's 12 counties are signing up fast for Poverty Simulations and Reality Enrichment and Life Lessons (REALL). The programs highlight what can happen when bad choices are made. The calendar for early 2024 is filling up, so districts are encouraged to sign up now.

The housing market is tough these days, but NECAC -- in conjunction with USDA Rural Development -- can help with a variety of programs. There also is financial counseling that will help homebuyers learn how to avoid problems.
