Over 50 Years of Volunteer Fire Service to be Honored

Merriam Webster defines a volunteer as someone who does something without being forced to do it. Being a volunteer is one thing. Being a volunteer for over 50 years is extraordinary. Steve Jones has been a volunteer firefighter for over 50 years, serving the citizens of Paris and Monroe County. Steve joined the City of Paris Fire Department in 1971 and continued on with the Paris Rural Fire Protection District as it took over coverage of both Paris and eastern Monroe County.

In 1992, he became Fire Chief and served as such until earlier this year when he retired from the fire service. Countless hours of service to those in need and those facing some of the most perilous times of their lives have been given by Steve and his family.

Steve's fellow firefighters and the Paris Rural Fire Protection District Board of Directors will be having an open house at the fire station in Paris on Sunday, December 3, 2023. The open house will be from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm with presentations taking place at 2:00 pm.

All citizens are encouraged to come by, visit with Steve, offer him congratulations on retirement, and show their gratitude for his years of service.
